Since starting the Keto diet, one thing I've missed the most is breaded foods and fries! But when you make a lifestyle change, that's a sacrifice you have to make... or is it? Maybe not when you can make something so similar, it fills that void! Check out these fries I made last night! They look just like restaurant fries and taste like sweet potato fries. But guess what... They rutabaga! You never would have been able to tell! This is so crazy simple to make and satisfies that carb craving in an instance. You will have to make these over and over again! I made them as a side dish to my low-carb Sloppy Joes, and they were a hit! 1/2 cup serving is 6g net carbs, but they are filling, so you probably won't even eat a 1/2 cup. You can dip them in a low-carb sugar-free ketchup or ranch dressing. You could even make your own fry sauce, combing low-carb sugar-free ketchup and mayo. Here's the recipe:
Ingredients:
1 rutabaga
chili powder
sea salt
1 Tbs olive oil
Directions:
Preheat oven to 450*F.
Peel rutabaga outter layer, then cut into "fries".
Boil the fries in water for a few minutes, then drain completely.
Place the fries in a large bowl, and add the olive oil and seasonings (to taste, about 2 tsp each).
Mix the ingredients, trying to coat each fry in the olive oil and seasonings.
Spread out on greased baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes. If they are overlapped, they may not cook thoroughly and will be mushy.
Cool slightly before eating.
